With Toyota’s LandCruiser Prado increasing in price with its upcoming new generation, the Fortuner is set to appear as even more of a budget-friendly option.

The HiLux-based SUV, which is unchanged for 2024, continues to open at $53,775 before on-road costs.

That makes it $9055 cheaper than the entry-level version of the outgoing Prado, and a significant $18,725 cheaper than the most affordable new-gen Prado.

Despite being more affordable than the Prado, the Fortuner has always been a weaker seller. Last year, Toyota sold 20,710 Prados but just 3619 Fortuners.

The Fortuner only narrowly outsold the LDV D90 (3341 sales) and was outsold by the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (5547).

Toyota doesn’t actually quote a boot capacity figure for the Fortuner, but independent figures quote 200L with the third row in use, 716L with the third row folded, and 1080L with the second row folded.

Servicing and Warranty

The Toyota Fortuner is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

Servicing is required every six months or 10,000km, with the first six services capped at $290 each.

Safety

The Toyota Fortuner has an ANCAP safety rating of five stars, based on testing of the related HiLux.

It received scores of 95 per cent in adult occupant protection, 84 per cent in child occupant protection, 88 per cent in vulnerable road user protection, and 78 per cent in safety assist.

The GXL can be had with a $2500 Premium Interior pack, which includes black leather upholstery and eight-way power-adjustable front seats.
